"From a house to a plane, a submarine to a boat, Poppy and Quinn show that a box will go as far as the imagination allows.
A highly original novelty book that transforms the most ordinary into something magical..."
"...Oozes child appeal. A cardboard box is used as a springboard for imaginative play, bringing exciting scenarios to life.
Paper engineering makes this a multi-dimensional treat that is sure to inspire even the youngest minds.
This is a treat from start to finish making the debut of a talented new illustrator."
Hayley has a new career as a children’s author after being headhunted by a prestigious publishing company.
Hodder Children’s Books publish the Charlie and Lola books as well as How to Train Your Dragon, which was later turned into the hit film.
The company is a branch of the prestigious Hodder and Stoughton, who first published Alice in Wonderland.
Now 25-year-old illustrator and author Hayley Welsh joins their illustrious ranks a few short years after being told the publisher was too busy to grant her a meeting.
Hayley, who is from Stanhill, had written and illustrated This Way Up, about children’s adventures playing with a cardboard box, for a project in her final year of her Arts and Design degree at Blackpool College.
She exhibited it a few years later at a small London gallery and was contacted out of the blue by Hodder staff who inadvertantly came across an advert of the exhibit.
Hayley said: “It’s been really exciting and now that the launch is almost here I can’t believe it.
"I’m having the launch in Oswaldtwistle and will be holding an illustration workshop at my old primary school so it’s all happening at the moment.
"It was really hard getting published because I didn’t have an agent. When Hodder got in touch, I was just delighted.
"They even arranged for me to work with the same paper engineer who did the Charlie and Lola books, transforming my book into a pop-up.”
This Way Up, about the adventures of children who use their imagination to play with a cardboard box, is to be released this month in the UK and in France.
